Never too early to teach toddlers how to live an active lifestyle

Childhood obesity is even more dangerous than previously thought, especially once kids pass the threshold of being 100 pounds or more overweight. A new study reveals that 50% of extremely obese children have high blood pressure and another 75% are at risk for heart disease, a March 2, 2015 U.S. News article reports. There is good news for new moms, however: it’s never too early to teach toddlers how to live an active lifestyle. The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests young children take part in rigorous aerobic activity at least three times a week, and a few trips to the playground is the perfect way to make it happen. If indoor playground equipment for toddlers is scarce, dance classes are another great option.

U.S. children are becoming increasingly sedentary, and it’s no wonder. While children may have been content with watching cartoons or Disney films years ago, today’s youngsters have even more distractions, from TV, movies, video games (including a comeback by handheld games, such as the Nintendo DS) to tablets and smartphones. In spite of these distractions, fitting in some physical activity is a must for children’s healthy growth and development. Active play boosts imagination, reading aptitude, and IQ scores; regular exercise also promotes socialization and helps children learn lifelong habits that will help them maintain a healthy weight. And it’s never too young to start. In fact, parents can choose from toddler gym classes, toddler tumbling classes, and toddler dance classes to help children get a head start.

Regular exercise is critical for a healthy mind and body — and that’s just as true for children as it is for adults. The Centers For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC) recommend a minimum of an hour of exercise for children per day. This essential exercise and play promotes imagination, and children who get regular physical activity also have higher IQ scores and read at higher academic levels. It is always best to choose the path of least resistance. Getting kids to exercise can be as simple as selecting an activity (or activities) they will genuinely enjoy. Jumping rope, jumping on a trampoline, hula hooping, sledding, roller skating, and ice skating are all rigorous activities, but kids won’t view them as exercise. Gently suggest or set aside time for these activities, and you should be all set.

Tumbling or gymnastics is a great place to start. These classes have all sorts of tangible health benefits. Tumbling teaches children discipline and builds strength, while building balance and motor coordination skills. The gyms, which can resemble an indoor playground for kids, include trampolines, springboards, and more — all to facilitate tumbling and fun. Tumbling classes ultimately lend themselves to more advanced gymnastic classes or even cheer classes, if children wish to continue. Being active as a young child — even as a toddler! — can encourage a lifetime of healthy habits. Enroll children in fun, dynamic classes for their physical health and overall well-being.

Indoor playground.

Indoor playgrounds, soft play, climbing structure, jungle gym, soft modular play or simple playground equipment - whatever you call it, soft indoor playgrounds have really stood the test of time as a successful amusement attraction for parent and children. Indoor playgrounds simply offer more play ability through a diversity of activities. Climbing, sliding, crawling, jumping, swinging, plus the added stimulation of a multi-level playground structure that encourages kids to think creatively as they explore a multi-dimension environment.
